Granting Agency Access to Your Mailchimp Account
When Glimmernet manages your Mailchimp account, we connect through Mailchimp’s agency access system rather than a standard user invitation. This is the most secure way to grant us access because it keeps our team under our own account, doesn’t use up one of your user seats, and lets you see exactly who from Glimmernet has access to your account at any time.
If you’re not yet using Mailchimp and are looking for help with email marketing, see our email marketing services page.
How it works
Agency access works a little differently from a standard user invitation. Instead of you inviting us, we send the connection request from our end. All you have to do is approve it when it arrives in your inbox. Before we can do that we’ll need the email address associated with your Mailchimp account owner, so if you haven’t already provided it please open a ticket or reply to your existing one and let us know.
When you receive the request
Once we’ve sent the request, here’s what to do:
- Open the agency access request email from Mailchimp and click View Request
- Log in to the Mailchimp account you want Glimmernet to access. If you have more than one Mailchimp account, make sure you’re logging into the right one.
- Choose a maximum level of access for Glimmernet. See the section below if you’re not sure what to select.
- Click Grant Access
That’s it. Mailchimp will notify us that access has been granted and we’ll take it from there.
What level of access should I grant?
Mailchimp has five permission levels. Here’s what each one means so you can make an informed decision:
- Viewer can see campaigns and reports but cannot make any changes. Not sufficient for our work.
- Author can create and edit campaigns but cannot send them or access audience data. Not sufficient for most tasks.
- Manager can manage audiences, create and send campaigns, set up automations, and view reports. This is the minimum level we need.
- Admin has full access including account settings and user management, but not billing. This is our preferred level as it gives us the flexibility to help with a wider range of issues without having to stop and ask you for access mid-task.
- Owner has complete control including billing. This cannot be shared and stays with you.
We recommend granting Admin access. In our experience billing and account-level questions come up sooner or later, and having Admin access means we can help you resolve them without back-and-forth. If you’re only comfortable with Manager access that works too, just be aware there are some things we won’t be able to help with directly.
A few things worth knowing
- Agency access does not count as a user seat on your Mailchimp plan, so it won’t affect your billing
- You can revoke or change our access level at any time by going to Account & Billing, then Settings, then Users in your Mailchimp account
- The connection request expires after 7 days. If it expires before you get a chance to accept it just let us know and we’ll send a new one.
- You’ll be able to see all Glimmernet team members who have access to your account at any time
