Granting Administrator Access to Microsoft 365
When Glimmernet needs to configure your Microsoft 365 account – for setting up email, configuring SPF and DKIM, troubleshooting mail flow, or managing tenant-level settings – the cleanest and most secure way to grant access is to create a dedicated administrator account for us. This avoids sharing your personal credentials and gives you full control over what we can access.
Before you begin
You will need Global Administrator access to your Microsoft 365 tenant to complete these steps. If you are not sure whether you have this level of access, open a new ticket or reply to your existing one and we can help you figure it out.
What level of access does Glimmernet need?
For most tasks we need at minimum Exchange Administrator access, which allows us to manage email configuration, mail flow, and authentication records like SPF and DKIM. For more complex work — full M365 configuration, onboarding, or tenant-level troubleshooting – Global Administrator access is the most efficient option and gets the job done fastest.
We understand that Global Administrator is a significant level of trust and we don’t ask for it unless we genuinely need it. If you’re not comfortable granting it we can work with more limited roles – it may just take a bit longer.
How to create a Glimmernet administrator account
- Log in to the Microsoft 365 admin center at admin.microsoft.com
- Go to Users → Active users
- Click Add a user
- Enter the following details:
- First name: Glimmernet
- Last name: Technologies
- Username: [email protected] — using your .onmicrosoft.com domain keeps the account off your primary domain and out of your public email directory
- Under Roles, select Admin center access and choose the appropriate role – Exchange Administrator or Global Administrator depending on what we’ve discussed
- Under Licenses, you do not need to assign a paid license — admin roles do not require one. Note that Microsoft’s licensing requirements may change, so if the system prompts you to assign a license you can decline it or open a new ticket or reply to your existing one and we’ll advise.
- Complete the setup and note the temporary password
- Open a new ticket or reply to your existing one and use the Private Credentials field to securely send us the username and temporary password — do not send credentials by email
